Chris Discusses Constitutional Reform, Prisons on CNN Local

Chris recently appeared on CNN Local Edition, where he talked with Brad Pomerance about a number of interesting issues.

Chris on Constitutional Reform:

Chris on Prisons:

On Prop 8

Discrimination, in any form, at any time, is just plain wrong. All Californians -- including gays and lesbians -- should have the same right to marry. It's an issue of equality and fundamental fairness.

As California's next Attorney General, my job will be to enforce the laws of our great state -- even the laws I disagree with. Prop 8 is one I'd like to see off the books when I take office.

Article I, Section 7.5 of our state's constitution now reads: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." This discrimination was inscribed into California's constitution through the passage of Proposition 8 in November of 2008.

Discrimination, in any form, at any time, is just plain wrong. All Californians -- including gays and lesbians -- should have the same right to marry. It's an issue of equality and fundamental fairness.

There's some discussion as to whether we should take it to the ballot in 2010, or wait until the general election year 2012. While I'd like to see this law off the books as soon as possible, I'll fully support the effort whatever year the LGBT community decides gives us the best chance of victory.

As Attorney General, I'll be responsible to enforce all of our laws -- but this is one law that I hope we'll overturn, and quickly. All of us need to speak out and work together to get that done.

Chris receives endorsement from largest prosecutors union in the country

Palo Alto, CA -- California Attorney General Candidate Chris Kelly and the largest prosecutors union in the country, the Association of Deputy District Attorneys (ADDA) of Los Angeles County, announced that the ADDA has endorsed Kelly's candidacy for Attorney General.

"I am very honored to accept the endorsement of the Association of Deputy District Attorneys. Their hard work in making the streets of Los Angeles safer is an inspiration for me as I begin my campaign for Attorney General to assure that we protect California's citizens and remake our broken state government."

The ADDA represents the interests of over 1,000 Deputy District Attorneys employed by the District Attorney of the County of Los Angeles.

Steve Ipsen, President of the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, said that "Chris Kelly's devotion to fighting crime and building a better California make us proud to endorse his candidacy for Attorney General. As the largest prosecutors union in California and the country, we are on the front lines pursuing justice for victims and protecting the Los Angeles community. Chris shares our values and will be a great leader for the state as Attorney General."

"As the Chief Privacy Officer of Facebook, Chris Kelly's experience with building a safer and more trusted online experience, combined with his prior service with the Clinton Administration and in the Federal courts, makes him an ideal leader at a time when we need fresh perspectives on protecting California communities," Ipsen continued.

Over the past four years, Kelly has worked diligently with Attorneys General across the country to develop and expand online safety tools to protect young people from inappropriate sites and unwanted online contact. Together with state Attorneys General and prosecutors across the nation, he has enhanced the ability of law enforcement officials to investigate and prosecute Internet crimes.

Craig also worked on California State Treasurer Phil Angelides' 2006 campaign for governor.

Lisa Cassinis, former Finance Director for the California Democratic Party, has joined the Campaign as the statewide Finance Director. Lisa comes to the Kelly Campaign after seven years of statewide democratic fundraising working in partnership with top Democratic corporations, unions, tribes and activists.
