Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America. Telemarketing schemes are commonly used to coax seniors into divulging financial information. Online tactics are used to trick consumers into revealing personal information. As Attorney General, I will work with California law enforcement to develop the methods and technology to track the activity and capture identity thieves.

As your Attorney General, I will work to improve public awareness about the steps citizens can take to prevent becoming victims. Additionally, I will work to increase the ability of the Attorney General’s office to impose harsh civil penalties against irresponsible companies that fail to protect their customers’ sensitive personal information and also increase reporting requirements when this data is compromised.
