ATTORNEY GENERAL CANDIDATE CHRIS KELLY ANNOUNCES POLICY PLATFORM TO PROTECT CALIFORNIA CONSUMERS

Reducing Identity Theft, Protecting Senior Citizens, and Preventing Mortgage Fraud among Top Priorities

Palo Alto — Today, Democratic Attorney General candidate Chris Kelly released a policy platform: "Protecting California Consumers," to protect California consumers from unscrupulous business practices, identity theft and online crimes. As California consumers continue to suffer from high foreclosure rates, unregulated payday lending scams, and a significant rise in Internet fraud, the plan outlines Kelly's innovative strategy to enhance consumer protection for all Californians.

"In an age where criminals are inventing illicit new ways to commit all sorts of online crimes every minute of the day, Californians need an Attorney General who understands how to use technology innovation to reduce crime and find and prosecute criminals," Kelly said. "With my background as a policy advisor to President Bill Clinton, my experience working with Attorneys General from across the country to my time serving as chief legal counsel at Facebook, I will be ready on day one to use technology and new ideas to protect California consumers."

"My innovative solutions will be cost-effective, technologically savvy and have the capacity to save California taxpayers millions of dollars," Kelly added.

Chris Kelly, an attorney and businessman, brings the right mix of experience in public policy, technology and law to fight traditional crime and combat new crimes of today - like identity theft and online sexual predators. After graduating from Harvard Law School, Kelly worked for a federal judge assisting on a wide range of criminal and civil cases, including drug smuggling and money laundering. Kelly then came home to work for a Palo Alto law firm, representing innovators and entrepreneurs, including Netscape in the Microsoft anti-trust case.

In the 1990's, he served as a domestic policy advisor to President Clinton. During his time working for President Clinton, Kelly helped advance the landmark plan that put 100,000 new community police officers on America's streets. As chief legal counsel at Facebook, Kelly led efforts to protect the safety and security of an online community of more than 400 million people. Kelly worked by side with Attorneys General from all 50 states developing safeguards to protect children from sexual predators and adults from online fraud.
