The big oil spill in California

Two years ago, thanks to some loud bullying from Sarah Palin and the "drill, baby, drill" crowd, George Bush lifted a 26-year-old ban on offshore oil drilling.

Two years later, oil is spilling out of an offshore rig in the Gulf of Mexico at a terrifying rate, with no signs of stopping.

Now imagine if a spill like that happened near your favorite California beach.

Fortunately, our California senators, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, have joined with senators from Oregon and Washington to introduce a permanent ban on west coast oil drilling.

I want to show them my support, and I'd like you to join me.

It's bad enough to contemplate an environmental catastrophe of this scale happening at all, but it gets even worse when you look into the legal issues.

Because of some outdated liability caps, the big oil companies who let the Deepwater Horizon spill happen may only pay a small fraction of the cleanup costs.

And according to Senator Boxer, this week a BP executive told Congress he couldn't guarantee there wouldn't be a repeat of this disaster on other offshore rigs.

Show that you support Senators Boxer and Feinstein's California coastal drilling ban today.

Thanks for your support.
