On Memorial Day weekend, Kamala Harris — San Francisco's failed District Attorney — began a series of ads so misleading we knew she had to be feeling pretty shaky about her standing in the Attorney General’s race.

For example, you may have heard about recent changes to Facebook's privacy policy. You may have also heard that a lot of people don't like them.

Well, if you read the Financial Times, you would have also heard that Chris Kelly doesn't like Facebook's privacy changes either.

In fact, as the FT reported, "Candidate Kelly today used strong language to distance himself from Facebook’s recent changes and said that if elected he would hold the company accountable if it violated state laws."

Note that Chris went on leave from Facebook in August 2009. These new changes didn't take effect until April 2010 — a full 8 months later.

In addition, in an email sent by Chris and MoveOn.org today, Chris joined with MoveOn to push Facebook to "recommit to letting users choose about third party sharing."

Naturally, despite these facts, Kamala Harris has decided to attack Chris anyway.

But why?

SF Weekly connected the dots in a recent piece, writing that Harris' effort to "deep-six" Chris' campaign "says a lot." Specifically, what it says is: Kamala Harris is "wary" and "perhaps a bit scared."

Why should Harris be so wary and scared?

Maybe because Chris Kelly has the qualifications and experience to make a better Attorney General for California than she does.

That would include experiences like working with all 50 Attorneys General while he was at Facebook to crack down on online sexual predators and protect people online from identity theft, and working for a federal judge in San Diego on civil and criminal cases involving money laundering and drug smuggling across the border.

And Chris helped President Bill Clinton put 100,000 new cops on America's streets as a White House domestic policy advisor in the 1990's — a policy that dramatically reduced crime.

Here's what Clinton's chief domestic policy adviser, Bruce Reed, said about that achievement: "Chris worked tirelessly on the 1992 campaign policy staff, the Presidential transition, and at the Clinton White House. He helped research implementation strategies for President Clinton's plan to put 100,000 community police on America's streets, which played a critical role in the longest, sharpest drop in crime rates on record."

So it isn’t exactly truthful when Harris attacks Chris Kelly about his experience, now is it?
