Kamala Harris Announces her Anti-Facebook Ad on... Facebook?

With just days left until the June 8th primary election, Kamala Harris unveiled a new campaign ad, slamming Facebook for being unsafe. Where did she take her last stand against Facebook? Why, Facebook, of course. Announcing her anti-Facebook ad on Facebook, Harris takes the old adage "do as I say, not as I do" to a whole new stratosphere.

As SF Weekly has noted, Facebook has played an important role in Kamala Harris' outreach efforts. In an email sent out on March 9th, the Harris campaign touted "The Facebook Primary" in the Attorney General's race, calling Facebook, "One of the best indicators of grassroots support." In addition to daily status updates throughout the campaign, supporters have been encouraged to use Facebook's various features to boost Kamala Harris - and Kamala Harris herself has two Facebook pages. (Note — that's twice the number of unsafe "status updates.")

In just the last few weeks, Harris has asked people to donate their status for her, change their profile picture for her, and let's not forget the shout-out she gave to her friend Tyra Banks for endorsing her — all on her Facebook page.

Kamala Harris' niece — who used to work for Facebook — is leading these efforts on the social networking site, showing that Kamala's tough talk on Facebook is merely overblown campaign rhetoric. In a campaign appeal earlier this week, the former Facebook employee and Harris niece asks people to "steal my status" in support of Kamala.

But why would "Auntie Kamala", as the email was entitled, allow her niece to work for such an "unsafe" company? Or for that matter, why would Harris campaign daily on Facebook while trashing Chris Kelly's work at Facebook, if she really thought the company was that bad?

Perhaps Kamala Harris needs to change her Facebook status to "confused and talking out of both sides of my mouth." It's clear she's trying to reap the benefits of Facebook while her campaign attempts to vilify the company to score cheap political points.

The fact is, Kamala Harris has repeatedly tried to distract voters from the very serious problems that have plagued her tenure as San Francisco District Attorney. She has released hundreds of criminals onto San Francisco's streets because of scandal. She has the lowest felony trial conviction rate of big-city D.A.'s. The latest statistics from the Department of Justice show that homicides have increased 32% in San Francisco on her watch.

And Kamala Harris thinks Facebook's not safe? Even "Mafia Wars" hasn't seen a 32% increase in homicide rates...
